When you think of learning how to meal prep for the week, the first thing you probably think of is the actual preparing of ingredients; however, before you actually start “prepping” your ingredients, the first thing you need to do is PLAN. If you are just starting to learn how to meal prep for the week, don’t let yourself become overwhelmed. Creating an entire week’s worth of meals from scratch is a monumental task, and it can quickly overwhelm even the most experienced preppers. Make sure your tasks are manageable! While you are getting used to the process, stick to just a few days at a time.
Having a meal plan is especially important. After all, why would you waste time going to the grocery store and throwing random things into your cart? In order to successfully meal prep for the week, you need to know what you’ll be preparing and when. Like we mentioned before, trying to organize an entire week’s worth of meals at once can be intimidating, so start with 3-4 days to begin with. Write down what you plan to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, and then break down these meals into lists of ingredients and how much you’ll need of each one. It’s best to begin with tried and true recipes, so you don’t wind up with a bunch of food you don’t like.
Finally, you’ll also need to make an effort to find recipes you can prepare in advance and that won’t spoil in the fridge. For example, steel cut oatmeal is an excellent breakfast recipe that can stay fresh in your fridge for up to 5-7 days. After you’ve made your meal plan and purchased the ingredients, now is the time to begin actually prepping your meals.
