What Is Clean Eating?
The concept of clean eating is simple to understand, even if it is not always simple to follow. Instead of being based upon the concept of eating more or less of a specific element (e.g. fewer calories), clean eating maintains its focus on the pathway food follows from its origin to your dinner plate. Clean eating is primarily concerned with eating whole foods, which are not genetically modified, refined, or processed. Ideally, whole foods should be as close to their natural state as possible. In general, whole foods are comprised of one or two ingredients. Any food stuff with a long ingredient list is not classified as “clean”.
Following the concept of clean eating means avoiding refined and processed foods. This list of foods to avoid includes pasta, bread, sugar, and white flour. Instead, refined and processed foods are replaced with complex carbs, like whole grains. The idea of clean eating also includes steering clear of any food items that are high in trans fats, have a high sugar content, or are fried. Fat replacers, emulsifiers, stabilizers, toxic binders, color additives, and preservatives should also be avoided. The consumption of healthy, essential fatty acids, such as seafood, is encouraged.
While keeping track of the number of calories you eat is required, pursuing a healthy lifestyle involves more than strictly numbers. In order to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle, eating clean is the primary key to continued success. It is more than “just” a diet. It is a lifestyle. Not only will it help you achieve the results you’re after, you will be surprised at how much more energized you feel. Although the idea of eating clean might initially seem intimidating, it really isn’t. It is an investment in your health and the health of your loved ones.
